Two Weird Problems and how I’m Working Around Them

I don’t know if it’s because my Surface SLS1 is still running Windows 10 (with the support extension), or what exactly.  However, two of my regular apps have now got problems, Edge Dev and Microsoft Copilot.

Edge Dev

I’ve had this installed for years now and it has been perfectly happy up until the update from version 150 to 151.  After the update, Dev will open and then close a second or so later. Came as a total surprise since I update it pretty regularly.  No help this time.  What I’ve had to do is downgrade it back to version150 and it runs just fine.  To downgrade, visit the Microsoft Update Catalog, search for Edge Dev, and download  the version you had that runs OK.  You’ll need to uninstall the current, non-functioning version, then install the download. This has worked just fine so far, I just have to remember to not let it auto-upgrade

Microsoft Copilot

This is not the Microsoft 365 Copilot, it is Microsoft Copilot from the store.  This one simplyt doesn’t even start, clicking the icon in the Start menu does nothing.  I had a look around the Application Event Viewer but saw nothing.  I tried both Repair and Reset from Settings > Apps with no joy.  I found that if I uninstall it, then re-install it from the Store, it comes up running fine when the installer finishes, but it still won’t launch after I close it. Again Repair/Reset is no help

The web version at Microsoft Copilot: Your AI companion launches and runs fine, so, once again, PWA to the rescue.  The PWA I made launches and runs fine, so that’s what I’m using temporarily.  At some point, I hope the apps will run again, though as soon as the extended support ends, I’ll be upgrading the SLS to Windows 11.

I should add that both of these apps run quite normally on the Windows 11 Lenovo AIO machine I have…maybe Microsoft is trying to tell me something.
